The world over, people today are pretty obsessed about staying fit and healthy and maintaining optimal weight. While most people want to stay slim for aesthetic reasons – to look good, and be able to dress beautifully – there are several health reasons why you need to watch your weight
Weight gain can hamper normal life
An obese person may find it more difficult to complete daily chores and tasks like cleaning, cooking, doing the laundry, getting to work, completing your tasks at work, even stuff like enjoying an evening walk, doing your shopping, and so on may become tedious. The extra fat you carry in your body can leave you feeling exhausted or drowsy and really slow you down.
Being overweight can magnify your risk of several diseases
When you are overweight, you are more likely to have elevated cholesterol levels – which can lead to a host of problems. If your diet contains food with trans-fats, the likelihood is even higher. High cholesterol levels can result in excessive fatty deposits in blood vessels and cause cardiovascular diseases like congestive heart failure, coronary artery disease, high blood pressure, and so on. It may also lead to diabetes which comes with its own set of complications – possible vision loss, liver malfunction, kidney failure, nerve damage, and so on.

Obesity can lead to adrenal fatigue
This is a state where you may experience fatigue, body aches, digestion problems, disturbed sleep, anxiety, and so on. Adrenal glands are located just above your kidneys and release several different hormones that regulate different body functions. Being overweight may put more pressure on them and they may not function effectively, leading to adrenal fatigue.
Maintaining healthy weight can lower Osteoporosis risk
Women are more susceptible to osteoporosis – where your bones become weak and porous, losing their density – especially during menopause; being overweight increases that risk significantly. When you maintain a healthy weight by eating right and working out, and taking the right nutritional supplements you can lower your risk of developing osteoporosis.
Apart from the above reasons, maintaining a healthy weight can also lower your risk of anemia and boost your immunity.
This is not to say that being grossly underweight is good for you. You need to eat adequately and get the essential nutrition from food and nutritional supplements and work out regularly to maintain optimal weight.
